I played three missions of XCOM 2 yesterday. In the first, I had to capture a downed UFO. I had several wounded soldiers, so I brought along some reserves. It's weird, now that I've got some characters at maximum level, I don't really play with them much, since I feel I'm wasting precious EXP on them instead of bolstering up the rest of my team.
So I brought some lower level soldiers and fought hard against the aliens protecting the UFO. There was a tight turn timer and several dangerous aliens, including two Cortex, an Andromedon, a couple of Sectoids and a motherfucking Sectopod. The Sectopods REALLY have to be taken out quickly or they will decimate my team rather quickly. I made it through the mission and even managed to do it without destroying critical parts of the map, which gave me better rewards at the end of the mission.
In the second mission, I had to download some data from a terminal. While it was kind of tricky because of the layout of the map, I didn't have much trouble getting the objective done.
The last mission had me rescuing an engineer VIP. Again, the mission had a turn timer, though this one was a bit more forgiving, and strong enemies. Orion Belt, my techie specialist, was back in the fray and more useful than ever. This guy can stun robots and can deal some guaranteed damage at almost any range with his Gremlin.
I've also been abusing the powers of Colonel Mustard, my psi operative. He really is very powerful and versatile, I can't picture a battle without him now. He can deal good damage at long range, can stun enemies and protect allies, can make explosives explode in the pockets of my enemies and can even give a soldier an extra turn. If ever I play this game again, I will make sure to prioritize the psi lab...
I rescued the engineer and got out of there safely. Back on the Avenger, I've run out of research to complete, so I think I really need to work on the main story missions now. I've made more contacts in the world too, and things are really going well overall. I think I need to just take these motherfuckers down. I feel like the end of the game isn't too far off now.
