Far Cry Primal

Date played: March 3rd
Platform: PS4

Most of my time playing Far Cry last night was spent in hallucinogenic visions and doing side quests in the world. I drank some mysterious blood again and completed 2 missions where I controlled a woolly mammoth. While the idea is pretty cool, the controls were fucking shit. In the first vision, I had to fight off a herd of woolly rhinos. The mammoth only has a sprint and an attack and honestly, it was really hard to attack at the right time. After failing 5 or 6 times, I started to get a feel for it though, and I made it through. It wasn't much fun...

The second mission was slightly better. I had to save an elder mammoth by navigating a dangerous path where humans kept attacking me with spears, rocks and poison bombs. When I reached the elder, I had to free him from his cage, then fight off more humans as I led the elder out of the area and back to his family. I liked this mission better because the humans were more fun to fight than the rhinos.

The shaman had another vision mission for me where I had to chase a giant stone woman's statue through some icy caverns, fighting dozens of cannibals with a spiked club along the way. It was weird because my health would regenerate a lot faster than usual, so it felt like a completely different game. It looked cool, but it wasn't much fun.

I was quite tired of these weird vision missions, so I headed out into the world and did some good old fashioned exploring and side quests. Along the way, I tamed a new, grey wolf, but I'm not using it because it's clearly inferior to my white wolf. I liberated some Wenja who were held prisoner. I found a couple of campfires, which act as fast travel points. I upgraded a couple of survival and gathering skills.
Oros is a really cool, but dangerous, place to explore
Many of the side quests marked on the map involved saving some Wenja or escorting them to safety. These missions were really cool and had me fighting lots of cannibals. My wolf and owl have been invaluable. In one mission, I had to save some Wenja without being detected by the Udam warriors. I killed one with my owl, then sniped the others with my bow from a high point nearby.

I then explored a large cavern where I found some collectibles and materials. There was a cool rock painting in there too, but I'm not sure what purpose it serves yet. The cavern was fun to explore since it was so dark. I had to use my club as a torch and set fire to some wood piles to make light. It was also a bit of a maze, where I got lost once or twice. The best part about Far Cry Primal is wandering in the world, hunting and gathering materials. Shit, I even had a surprise battle with a woolly rhino. It was a tough fight for sure, but I made it through alive!
