inFAMOUS First Light

Date played: February 8th
Platform: PS4
Session fun rating: 7/10

When I played inFAMOUS Second Son last year, I had a lot of fun. Fetch, the neon powered woman, was one of the best characters in that game, so when I saw that First Light, the stand alone, mini expansion, starred the pink-haired anti-hero, I was pretty excited. First Light was free for PS+ last month too, so that's nice!

I only played the introduction, the first mission and some introductory arena challenges. The game is a prequel to Second Son and shows Fetch's time in the conduit prison and how she got there. The story is setup as flashbacks as Fetch explains her situation to Brooke Augustine, the villain from Second Son.

Fetch and Brent
Fetch tells her story. She was homeless with her brother Brent. They were basically petty thieves. They made a promise together, that Fetch would not use her powers so that the DUP wouldn't find her and put her in prison. As they set off for their last, big heist, Fetch decides to use her powers to distract some cops. She then goes on to steal the money that they were after.

The game still plays like Second Son, except that Fetch doesn't have all her powers yet. For now, she can run up walls at light speed and shoot neon bolts. When she reached the apartment with the money, she was ambushed by some bad dudes, so I fought them. After the battle, Fetch discovered a time bomb, but a little too late. She was blown to the streets below and made her way back to her brother.

Unfortunately, he was nowhere to be found. As it stands, the game is now a rescue mission. It's nice to see a woman in charge of saving a man for once in a video game... Fetch also met a friend of her brother's, Shane. This man is the one who hired Brent for the theft and he guided Fetch in the right direction.

The flashback ended and Augustine asked Fetch to complete an arena challenge to help her master her neon powers. I had to save holographic hostages from holographic thugs in a rather large arena. It was kind of boring honestly and I just wanted to get back to the story bits.
