Costume Quest 2

Date played: February 5th
Platform: PS4
Session fun rating: 7/10

I loved the first Costume Quest when I played it last October, so when I saw the second one on sale for PS4, I bought it to play with my daughter who absolutely loves Halloween.

The sequel starts where the Grubbins on Ice expansion left off, with the 4 kids in a weird, portal-filled area. They decided to go through the portal and found themselves back home, on Halloween, but something is... off. It's brushed off as a "Time dilation anomaly", whatever that means. The hero siblings then met an evil dentist that summons monsters through a portal! That's when one of their friends as an adult from the future and begs them to come through another time portal with them.

Evil Dr. White banned Halloween!
It's non-sense, but it's funny and well delivered. In the future (maybe 15-20 years?), our friend tells us that the Dentist rules the world. Candy, costumes and Halloween are now illegal! How disastrous! Of course, we must save Halloween. To do so, we picked up a superhero costume and a candy corn costume from the shed, We then jumped into another portal and were told to "find the witches".

The gameplay is very similar to the previous game, though some minor changes were made. For example, there are now items to be used in combat. The battle button prompts have changed to include a sort of timer, so there are now normal, nice and awesome hits. I found a new friend and saved his ass from a giant crocodile who then joined our party. He brought with him a funny clown costume that features a squeaky horn and some butt stomp attacks.

We started trick or treating to find the witches and reached level 2. My daughter has fun pressing the button to knock on the doors and had a blast making fart jokes with the clown's attacks...
