Yoshi's Woolly World

Date played: January 23rd
Platform: Wii U
Session fun rating: 9/10

As is my usual Sunday morning routine, I played some video games with my daughter. She loves Yoshi's Woolly World, so we completed the fourth world together and played one level from the fifth.

After going back to a couple of older levels to gather all the flowers and yarn balls, we played the last few levels of the jungle world. Yoshi Branches Out was a simple, but fun level that marks the return of a classic item, a spherical platform with a rotating arrow on it. The platform moves in the direction of the arrow once Yoshi steps on it, making it a powerful, but dangerous tool.

Next, we headed to the world's final castle level. It featured a sort of pipe maze deep underground. The final boss was fucking awesome, a giant piranha plant! I had to swallow, then spit out some bombs to hit the thing in the mouth. It attacked me with it's big mouth, but also with some spiked branches and smaller plants.

Since we managed to get all the flowers in the world, we unlocked the secret level, the return and revenge of the giant piranha plant! As is the norm with these secret levels, this thing was fucking difficult... Throughout the whole level, I was being chased by the giant piranha plant, adding a sense of urgency to the already very difficult platforming. After over a dozen tries, I made it through to the end and could move on to the fifth world.

The fifth world is set in the snow and the first level didn't disappoint. Accompanied by a snowy, jingle filled version of the game's theme song, Yoshi grew a large snowball by pushing it through the level. It was real easy, but also very satisfying. I can't wait to see what else awaits us in this snowy land of cuteness!
